TESTING
TEST METHOD SUMMARY
Testing is an important part of the design process. For example, ISO standards ensure a product cannot be given to a consumer if it has not been tested. In addition, a business owner does not want to sell a product that is incomplete or does not achieve all the requirements for a successful device. To guarantee a successful product, the testing phase consists of evaluating the device on all success criteria. This vital process to the project’s success. The tests include, weight, testing time, volume, test prep time, and accuracy.
REQUIREMENTS
- Test time under 15 minutes
- Prep time under 45 minutes
- Bellow 5% error in measurementÂ
- Weigh less than 20lbs
- Fit inside 18"x13"x10" box
PROCEDURE
- Test time: Test the time it takes to take measurement
- Prep time: Test the time it takes to prep samples and set-up device
- Error Percentage: Determine error in measurement compared to known thermal conductivity values
- Weight test: Weigh fully assembled device
- Volume test: Place device in 18"x13"x10" box

TEST DISCUSSION
One issues that arose during testing was finding a way to test the devices' accuracy when the DAQ assistants were not able to acquire signal. This required the use of multiple digital multimeters to determine voltage and current, to simulate the data acquisition of the DAQ modules. This cut out the VI from the system and required hand calculations of thermal conductivity. This test was not accurate enough to determine an accuracy of the whole system and for this reason the device failed the minimum error reequipment of 5% even though the calculated error was 3.99%.
TEST RESULTS
Weight, volume, test time, and prep time requirements have passed the requirements for this device. However the accuracy of the device did not pass the 5% minimum error.
